Letters of Recommendation

The PPAEC requires a minimum of three full-length letters from regular, permanent faculty members from whom they have taken traditional, three to four credit lecture courses (on-line courses and labs will NOT be accepted). Two letters should be from science faculty members (this does include mathematics and engineering courses) and one letter should be from a social science, humanities, or fine arts faculty member. Some professional schools also require a letter from a professional in the field - physician, dentist, pharmacist, etc. We strongly encourage students to obtain this letter. If students have participated in research they should request a letter from their research mentor. It is beneficial to the student to ask for recommendation letters right after having completed the course, the shadowing experience, or the research project.

Additionally, the Committee requires six faculty evaluations. These can only be obtained from FIU faculty members. Four should be from science faculty members (this does include mathematics and engineering courses), one should be from a social science, humanities, or fine arts faculty member, and one can be from either category.

Letters of recommendation and faculty evaluations must be strongly supportive of a student’s career goal. It is essential that students be personally well-known to the faculty from whom they request letters and evaluation forms.
