Veterinary Medicine

Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.)

In the State of Florida there is currently only one college of Veterinary Medicine. University of Florida in Gainesville offers a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree. Although all colleges of Veterinary Medicine may not specifically require a Bachelor of Science degree it is a very rare student who successfully applies to a college of veterinary medicine without completing his/her undergraduate degree. Veterinary Medicine students must take introductory courses in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics, and Animal Science, obtain a suitable score on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), and submit a competitive application including letters of reference from faculty and a veterinarian. Application is made to these programs through The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges Application Service (VMCAS). The Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges maintains information of relevance to students on their site (AAVMC).
